Pleasanton, California

Mitchell Hebb Smith Jr., devoted husband and father, successful businessman, and avid outdoorsman passed away December 8th at the age of 89. Born on June 27, 1936, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Mitchell and Emily Pauline Smith, Mitch spent the early part of his childhood in upstate New York and then moved with his family to Camden, South Carolina, where he completed high school and college. After college, Mitchell joined the army to support and defend his country, being honorably discharged as a Specialist E4 in 1961. With a degree in mathematics, Mitchell started his working career as an engineer with All American Engineering, but a keen mind for business drew him into sales, where he excelled and eventually went into management. Along the way, Mitchell met the love of his life, Lorraine Saber, and in 1967, they were married. 1968 brought the birth of their son, Jonathan, and then 1975 saw the birth of their daughter, Suzanne. That same year, while the couple had started their lives on the East Coast, California came calling, and they moved out to Pleasanton, where they lived out the rest of their days. Mitchell was an avid outdoorsman and imparted his love of all things nature and the outdoors to his wife and children as the family spent most weekends traveling around the state in their beloved RV, camping, fishing, and even hunting a few times. Mitchell retired first as a Vice President from Western Drinking Fountains in 1995 and then again from RV and Associates in 2002. In retirement, Mitch became a fixture at the neighborhood park with his dogs, Sally, Charlie, and then Sophie. He knew everyone and their dog, and they all loved him. As Mitch’s health began to decline, the friends he made would frequently stop by the house to ask how he and his dog have been. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine. He is survived by his son, Jonathan; his daughter, Suzanne; his grandchildren, Melanie, Ashley, Sebastian, and Rowan; and his great-grandchild, Addison.
