Lasting Memories

Lee 'Zack' Zachariades
June 4, 1948-Jan. 12, 2026
Pleasanton, California

Lee Arthur Zachariades, lovingly known as “Zack,” passed peacefully at his home on January 13, 2026, with his loyal dog, Bailee, by his side.

Zack is survived by his daughters, Allie and Katie; their partner and husband, Brandon and Collin; and his cherished granddaughters, Charlotte Grace and Harlan, who brought him immense pride and joy.

Born in Castro Valley, California on June 4,1949, to dedicated educators Katherine “Zacky” Zachariades and George Zachariades, both immigrants from Greece, Zack was raised in the Greek Orthodox faith and served as an altar boy. He lost his father at age 12, a formative event that shaped his character and resilience. Though an only child, he shared a lifelong bond with his cousins Bill, Deb, Liz, and Art, spending treasured summers together in Massachusetts and Maine.

A natural leader, Zack was class president at Canyon High School and went on to earn a degree in History from UC Berkeley. He played football for the Cal Bears during his college years, and remained an enthusiastic fan throughout his life. Being the son of two educators, he was drawn to teaching and went on to earn his teaching credential. He landed his first job as a 5th grade teacher at Alisal Elementary, and continued to dedicate 45 years to the Pleasanton School District as a teacher and coach. He was known for his wild sense of humor and unique classroom spirit. He believed deeply in young people and worked tirelessly to create environments where students felt seen, supported, and valued. Through breakfast clubs, BBQs, field trips, and school events, Zack built havens where students could explore their identities and discover their self-worth. Many lives were forever changed because Zack chose to care, to show up, and to lead with integrity, heart and soul.

Zack and Joanne shared a love of the outdoors, sports, and community. Together they raised two daughters in Pleasanton and Lake Tahoe. He was deeply devoted to his children, always present for their challenges and achievements.

In retirement, Zack found joy in golf, fishing, gardening, time with friends, and long walks with Bailee. He was steadfast, loyal, passionate, and unapologetically real. Zack will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 1, 2026 at the Pleasanton Senior Center at 11:00 AM.

Mr Zack was a legend. He helped so many students find their way. Many many stories I have about Zack, but I guess the most memorable was the 9 ft python that was loose in our house for a few months. As crazy as that was I appreciate all he did to foster my son’s love of animals, science and all the responsibilities that come with that. And as much as I could have done without the 6 snakes he dropped off the following year, it taught my sons so much. His influence and presence in my son’s lives is something I’ll always be grateful for. Here we are 35 years later and he’s still making a difference. My son followed in his footsteps now teaching at the same school where we first met Mr Zack. Zack was also our neighbor and would always make us laugh when we saw him. Our condolences go out to him family especially his lovely daughters.

Mr. Zack was one of those unique teachers you never forget. He had such a big heart and a wild sense of humor, but what I remember most is how much he cared. He showed up for me in high school and helped change my path for the better. If it wasn't for him I would have never graduated high school from going to glide memorial to playing hockey and dodgeball and him showing me how to tie my tie for prom .. always looked forward to his class.. he was such a amazing teacher and person. To his family: please know that his legacy lives on in the hundreds of students he helped. He will be deeply missed. Rest In Peace Zack untill we meet again —Jason Javed Village High class of 2010
