Lasting Memories
Judy Ann Curtner
Feb. 5, 1944-May 21, 2025
Livermore, California
Judy Curtner passed away on May 21, 2025, at the age of 81. Born February 5, 1944, in San Luis Obispo, Judy was the second oldest of Irene and Bud Gillen’s four daughters. She graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1962 and went on to attend Cuesta College. A few years later, while employed at Riley’s Department Store, Judy had a chance encounter at a pizza parlor with a young man named Bert, who was managing a car wash at the time. Their relationship blossomed and they were married at Mission San Luis Obispo in May 1969.
Following Bert’s graduation from college, a career opportunity brought the couple to Livermore, where they spent the rest of their lives together and raised their two children. For a number of years, Judy and Bert managed apartments in Livermore and Pleasanton. They enjoyed square-dancing with the Valley Travelers and took their family on countless camping trips in their beloved Apache tent-trailer. Over time, Judy’s adventures expanded far beyond the campsite: she and Bert traveled to Europe and Australia, cruised in Alaska and Hawaii, and marked the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal with a memorable crossing. Disneyland held a special place in Judy’s heart, and she created a lifetime of joyful memories at “the happiest place on earth” with her children and grandchildren.
Judy had an extraordinary gift for turning strangers into friends. Whether chatting with employees at her favorite grocery store (Nob Hill Foods) or volunteering at the Granada High School snack shack during football games, she formed deep and lasting connections. Judy was a beloved caregiver to many children she met while babysitting for the Livermore Women’s Club and at Jazzercise classes. Many of these children and their families remained close to her through the years, celebrating important milestones together including birthdays, graduations, and weddings.
Judy adored her family and cherished the friendships she made throughout her life. She is lovingly remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and signature dishes–most notably her one-of-a-kind tuna noodle casserole and homemade pumpkin pie.
Judy is survived by her devoted husband Bert; daughter Laurie O’Meara; son Steven Curtner and wife Alison; grandchildren Jack Curtner, Audrey Curtner, Morgan O’Meara, and Cassie O’Meara; sisters Susan Davis and Patsy Pando; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and sister Pam Nakamura.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Judy’s life on Saturday afternoon, July 26, in Livermore. For location and details, call or text family friend Karen Holtz at 925.548.5010.
