Randy Isaacs
Oct. 5, 1964-April 6, 2024
Pleasanton, California

Randy Isaacs, known affectionately as “Big Red,” died of a heart attack doing what he loved, hiking out in nature. He was 59 years old.

Randy was raised in Pleasanton, California, where he was a multi-sport student-athlete at Foothill High School, where he would later spend his career teaching, coaching, and mentoring students and players. Randy attended Columbia Community College in Sonora, California and Chico State University where he continued to play basketball. He traveled to Australia where he coached a Women’s basketball team and played internationally.

After returning to the United States, Randy began his teaching career in the Pleasanton Unified School District, eventually transitioning to his Alma Mater. Randy’s career spanned 30 years and included teaching, coaching the Men’s Varsity Basketball team, and also serving as Athletic Director. Foothill fans will remember Randy as “the voice of Foothill football.”

Randy married the love of his life, Karen (Lapp) Isaacs and together they raised their twin daughters, Haley and Alyson, in the town that he loved.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Delsie Clayton, and step-father Darwin Clayton. In addition to his wife and daughters, Randy leaves behind his brother, Ed Isaacs, and sister-in-law, Terri Isaacs, as well as nieces Stephanie (Robert) and Melissa, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Shirley and Walt Coltharp, sister-in-law, Debbie Wardell, and nieces and nephews, Christie (Ethan), Stephanie (Trevor), Billy, and Brad (Flor), and great nieces and nephews.

Randy will be deeply missed by life-long friends, his community of coaches and teachers, and Tom and Pat Hansen, who were instrumental throughout Randy’s life.

Karen, Alyson, and Haley, as well as the entire Isaacs family, would like to express their deepest gratitude for the many expressions of love and support given during this difficult time.

A Celebration of Randy’s Life will be held Saturday, May 4th, at 2 p.m. in the Foothill High School Gymnasium.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support the Randy Isaacs Scholarship Fund, which will be awarded to a community college student via the Foothill High School Athletic Booster Club. Link: https://tinyurl.com/randyisaacs
