Mary Grubbs, age 81, passed away peacefully on the evening of January 7, 2025. Born on June 25, 1943, Mary grew up in San Francisco and later moved to Pleasanton with her beloved husband of 58 years, David Grubbs.
Mary was a devout Catholic and a dedicated member of the Catholic Community of Pleasanton, where she worshiped faithfully and fostered lasting friendships. Her faith guided her daily life, and she instilled those values in her six sons, whom she raised with unwavering love and compassion.
Mary's life was devoted to nurturing others. Mary created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and the rich aroma of her cherished recipes, a gift she passed along to her children and grandchildren.
Mary is a graduate of the University of San Francisco (BA, History & English, class of 1966) and later earned a Master of Education at California State University, East Bay with an emphasis in Special Education. Over the course of her career in Education, Mary taught at Our Lady of the Rosary in Union City and St. Bede’s in Hayward. After earning her M.Ed., Mary led Special Education at Mendenhall Middle School in Livermore until her retirement. After retirement Mary volunteered her time to local schools and community programs, including Special Religious Education (SPRED) through the Catholic Community of Pleasanton (CCOP).
Mary is survived by her husband, David; her sons John, Patrick (Andrea), Carl, Daniel (Lisa), and Benjamin (Sok); and her cherished grandchildren, Clarissa, Annabelle, John, Grady, Joe, Noah, Jack, Andrew, Ava, Nicolas, Abraham, Fitzpatrick, Joshua, Anneliese, and Delaney. She is preceded in death by her son Robert, whom she loved dearly and spoke of often with pride and tenderness. Mary’s love extended to her many siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as countless friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
A vigil/rosary will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 6:00 pm, at Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St., Pleasanton, CA. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Church, 3999 Bernal Ave., Pleasanton, CA. A reception will follow the mass at McKay’s at 252 Main St., Pleasanton CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the CCOP, SPRED, or your favorite charity in Mary’s honor.
The Grubbs family expresses their deep gratitude for the prayers, love, and support extended during this difficult time. Mary’s light will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
