Gordon Chester Grimm
Feb. 24, 1941-Feb. 16, 2026
San Ramon, California

Gordon Grimm, age 84, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, in San Ramon, California. Born on February 24, 1941, in San Francisco, California, Gordon’s life was marked by devotion to family, a strong work ethic, and a joyful spirit that touched all who knew him.

Gordon was the beloved son of Pearl and Chester Grimm and grew up as one of three children in San Francisco. From an early age, he displayed a keen curiosity and a zest for life. As a child, Gordon developed a passion for tropical fish, carefully tending to his own ornate tanks. He also enjoyed stamp and coin collecting—hobbies that would remain with him throughout his life. His youthful enthusiasm extended beyond his collections; he was an active Boy Scout and earned recognition as an “All Star” paper boy.

After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School and spending time at San Francisco City College, Gordon earned his bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. While in college, he worked at the Bohemian Grove, an exclusive men’s retreat on the Russian River. After completing his undergraduate studies, Gordon joined the Naval Air Reserve, demonstrating his commitment to service and discipline. Following his time in the Reserves, he continued his education at San Francisco State University, where he earned his master’s degrees—a testament to his dedication to learning and personal growth.

Gordon’s professional journey spanned over three decades at Safeway corporate. His colleagues remember him not only for his diligence but also for the warmth he brought to the workplace. For more than 30 years, Gordon donned the red suit as Santa Claus at Safeway Corporate parties, bringing joy to countless children and families during the holiday season. Even after retiring from Safeway following 35 years of service, he continued spreading cheer by playing Santa for other children in the community. Retirement did not slow him down; Gordon took on a part-time role at Otis Mcallister, where he continued to share his kindness and work ethic.

Family was always at the heart of Gordon’s life. He met his future wife, Gay Fremier-Grimm, through his mother—a connection that blossomed into a loving marriage. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Jeannine, into their lives. Gordon cherished every moment spent with his family. He was an incredible father and a proud papa to Kai and Makena, whose love for them knew no bounds. The holidays held special meaning for Gordon and Gay — they delighted in making Christmas magical for their loved ones year after year.

Traveling with Gay was among Gordon’s greatest joys. The couple especially treasured cruises and trips to Maui, creating memories that would last a lifetime. At home or abroad, Gordon’s thoughtful nature shone through—he was always there when needed, offering support and love without hesitation.

Gordon’s faith played an important role in his life as well. He attended First Church of Christ Scientist in Danville and found comfort in its teachings throughout the years.

He is survived by his devoted daughter Jeannine Pickering and his loving sister Janis Salvi. Gordon was predeceased by his cherished wife Gay Fremier-Grimm; his brother Douglas Grimm; his mother Pearl Low; and his father Chester Grimm.

Those who knew Gordon will remember him as a thoughtful husband, protective older brother, loving father, proud grandfather, and steadfast friend. His legacy endures through the countless lives he touched—with kindness that never wavered and generosity that knew no limits.

May memories of Gordon bring comfort to all who mourn his passing and inspire others to live with the same warmth and devotion that defined his remarkable life.
